The rising trend of dental tourism in Ho Chi Minh City

Traveling to Vietnam for health examinations and treatments has become increasingly popular. The country has seen a steady influx of international patients seeking medical care, with Ho Chi Minh City emerging as a prominent destination due to its advanced healthcare facilities and competitive pricing.

In recent years, the question we get asked a lot by our foreign friends and fellow travelers in our Welcome to Vietnam Facebook Group is where they can do teeth whitening and teeth cleaning. It used to confuse us to see our friends traveling all the way to Ho Chi Minh City only to have their teeth cleaned or whitened, but later, we found out that the Vietnamese dental sector is winning over other countries in many aspects.

“The prices are shockingly cheap, only a fraction compared to what I’d have to pay in my country,” said Mr. Tom from Ireland after having his 28 ceramic crowns restored at Ha Linh Dental Clinic in Ho Chi Minh City.

Tom is not the only one who is surprised by how affordable dental services in Vietnam are. A commenter left under an article on HCMC dental care said he was shocked to learn that a single crown would cost $6,000 back in his home country in the West. Meanwhile, even the most expensive crown here would cost no more than $600, and that comes with a 10–15 year guarantee.

“When I need a new crown, I’m booking the first flight back to Ho Chi Minh City,” the commenter wrote.

Other common services requiring less expertise, like teeth cleaning and teeth whitening, cost around $35.

Just like that, the dental care sector in Ho Chi Minh City has built a strong reputation through positive online reviews and word-of-mouth.

The dental service in Ho Chi Minh City not only wins customers for its affordability but also for its speediness. Tran, a Vietnamese currently studying in Canada, talked about her arduous journey to have her wisdom teeth removed there.

“What could have been a walk-in procedure and taken only a few hours in Vietnam, including examination and surgery, turned out to be months of making appointments and wait time,” she described.

The abundant staffing in the dental industry in Ho Chi Minh City, along with well-trained dentists and modern equipment, allows clinics to offer same-day or next-day appointments. Complex procedures, such as tooth removal surgery and implants, can be completed in a short timeframe. That’s to say, international tourists can definitely combine their travel with dental treatment.

The growth of dental tourism is not just an observation but is backed up by increasing annual revenue. Recognizing the potential of dental tourism, Ho Chi Minh City has designated it as one of the city’s five key medical tourism sectors. To further enhance it, the government is developing integrated dental tourism packages that combine dental care service with travel experience.

It is now possible for international tourists to book a package with a dental clinic that works with a local travel agency. Together, they offer airport pick-ups, accommodation, dental appointments and treatment, and of course, tours in and around Ho Chi Minh City. Everything is in one package. All visitors need to do is sit back and enjoy a stress-free trip then go home with a bright smile and a complete makeover.

So, if you are considering dental services, booking a flight to Ho Chi Minh City and getting them done here is not a bad idea at all (even a better idea). For you lovely travelers who already planned your trip to Ho Chi Minh City, dental care is what you should add to your to-do list.
